@cantroos Oh of course. I think that those few bad officers definitely cause others to have a bad taste for law enforcement. It's an unfortunate situation.

@bjpw1234 I mean I guess that's true. but unfortunately there is a small but still sizable minority of police officers who conduct themselves in a very unprofessional manner with the public and it smears the entire force. they view themselves as gods and think society is just there to follow their orders, they break the rules and invariably complaints just get thrown in the garbage because their #1 rule is always protect your own, even if there has been misconduct.

@cantroos While big metropolitan police departments are generally more... oppressive, almost all of the small town police departments are actually very friendly. But how much a citizen can intervene will mostly depend on state laws. Example: In fascist California, gun laws are extremely strict, while in Texas, you can shoot and kill someone simply because they were threatening your property, no charges pressed. Local cops just enforce the state laws, while all feds enforce the evil federal laws.

@bjpw1234 but at the same time, in a lot of places the police have consistently taken a very strong sense against citizen self defence - you know the thing, where some thug is beating some old lady to rob her and a couple of people intervene the cops will always say "We strongly discourage citizens from putting themselves at risk!' or if a guy breaks into your house with a gun and you shoot him you'll be charged. They want to have a total monopoly on public safety, if only for their jobs.

i dont like the fact that most of these officers talk to the inmates like their best friends.
bjpw1234 (November 30, 1999 at 12:00 am)
@cantroos They stop crimes when they can. You can't expect them to always know when and where a crime's going to happen ahead of time. "Fuck the police" is a very complicated and often misused phrase. Federal cops are the guys you gotta worry about. Local cops just want to help their communities, well, most of the time.

@octavia980 not really, I think getting all bent out of shape over someone elses' personal decision is only really reasonable up to the age of 6 or so

@AllanHable You would not want to come across any criminal from the states! Ask the British athurities about the two cops who were gunned down by a American fugitive. The States are a lot more violent; so you CANNOT compare the two. We also have Mexico to our south and their drug war is crossing our borders! Do some research on American crime history before you commit about US cops being to aggressive.

She is totally clueless about life as an inmate. You don't go telling what had happened in front of everyone in your pod unless you want to get labeled as a SNITCH and get killed. Hello.....get a clue. Of course no one is going to say, "Hey, I know what happened! This is what happened....." She needs to study more about the life and rules of being an inmate.
